PNG compression: from minimum to maximum

The PNG file format is a comparatively new progressive format originally designed to replace GIF. PNG’s compression is fully lossless and will never degrade the image quality. PNG’s compression is among the best that can take place without losing image information. PNG supports 3 main image types: truecolor, grayscale and palette-based. It is not such a popular format yet, because it’s relatively new, but its appeal is growing as people discover what it can do. ImageConverter Plus supports the PNG format for practically all conversion options. If you choose PNG to be the output format, the following compression level parameters are available in our software: from 0 to 9. Specify 9 for high compression (small file, slowest), 1 for low compression (larger file, faster), 0 for no compression (largest file, fastest). The default compression level is 5.
